Winter Jackets

The City and Us | Canada Goose Parkas

The City and Us | Canada Goose parkas

I’ve had this J.Crew long puffer jacket (currently on major sale) for years and love it. Puffer jackets have long been a popular winter pick; they’re comfortable, super warm, flattering, and go with everything. Lately, I’ve noticed a popular trend in NYC: Canada Goose parkas. They come in lots of different styles, including puffers, and this style has me wanting to upgrade my winter jacket. But it’s an investment.

If you haven’t heard of it before, Canada Goose is like the Heavyweight Champion of Winter-Jackets-World. Olympic athletes and extreme adventurers, professional dogsledders and mountain climbers, and broadcasters and educators wear Canada Goose. You can read about their story here–it’s impressive.

Thoughts? Would you wear one? Do you have one?

I have a soft spot for dainty rings. Ones with thin bands and pretty center stones are my favorite. This ‘floating’ style by Samantha Conn is beautiful, don’t you think?

How’s your holiday shopping coming along? I haven’t bought anything yet, and somehow it’s already December 6th. I keep seeing warnings like “ONLY 3 days left to place your order to get it by Christmas Eve,” so apparently I need to get going. In case you need some holiday shopping inspiration today, here is my growing list of favorite places to shop…

Fewer, Better Gifts

The City and Us: Fewer, Better Gifts with Cuyana

I love the idea of buying and wearing quality pieces that I’ll wear over and over again, don’t you? The San-Francisco-based brand Cuyana, meaning “to love” in Quechua, is based on the philosophy of having ‘Fewer, Better’ things and buying only what you love.

“Fewer, Better is the foundation of everything we do. Product-wise, we design essential pieces for the modern woman with the most premium materials and finest craftsmanship. Lifestyle-wise, we strive to create a content destination on intentional living and elegant simplicity across all categories.

We want you to love everything in your closet – and in your life…whether it’s clothing you love, travel you love, design you love, food you love, or more. Join us on our journey to live a life ‘to love.'”

This is such an important philosophy to remember, especially during the holidays as we’re browsing Cyber Monday sales and gift guides and reading the latest tech gadget reviews.

So recently when Cuyana asked if I’d like to share their mission, ‘gift hinting’ campaign, and quality products, I was thrilled. Gift hinting is a way to enable you to give–and receive–exactly what your loved ones want this holiday season; it’s a little hint and takes the guessing game out of gifting.

Last week was the first of our short holiday trips to New England (can’t wait to go back for Christmas!), and I’ve been searching for a great weekender bag for these shorter trips when a suitcase is too much of a hassle. This Weekender Bag is the perfect size for a few days away from home and is easy to carry with a convenient crossbody strap. I’d highly recommend it. I also love how the dark charcoal color and brown leather handles give it a slight masculine feel making it perfect for everyone in your family–both Dan and I will use it for years.

This post is in partnership with Cuyana, a brand whose mission and products I love. Thanks for reading, as always. xx

5 Stylish Ways to Wear Flare-Leg Jeans

When I was in middle and high school flares were the it-jean and basically the only style I wore, but over the last several years, I’ve been wearing skinny-leg (with the occasional boot-cut) jeans along with everyone else.

But the flare-leg jean is back, and I’ve recently been eyeing this pair and also love this button-front version. Before I splurge on a new pair, how exactly are stylish women wearing flare-leg jeans these days?

Best Summer-to-Fall Transition Pieces

October 27, 2015

When the air gets crisp and the days get shorter, I always find myself reaching for the same pieces again and again–a loose sweater, a comfy scarf, an oversized silk blouse, my trusty army jacket, and plaid (of course). Here are the best summer-to-fall transition pieces I’ve found recently.

I also love wearing dresses because they’re so easy–it’s just one thing to throw on. But in the Fall, I’ll layer a sweater over a summer dress, and voilà!

Here are three pretty dresses that are great for both summer and fall.

The City and Us Shop!

The City and Us Shop

More often than not, I purchase something based on recommendations from people I love, trust, and admire. I also find new places to shop by recommendations from these people. So, it seems natural that I keep the recommendations going and share my finds here with you all in The City and Us Shop!

You’ll find items like my favorite winter coat–going on three years!–my everyday bag, and the new brightening eyeliner I just picked up. There are also lots of items on my wish list–like these amazing booties and this comfy sweater!

Also in the shop is a link to my Shopping Guide, which some of you might remember from last year. It’s a roundup of my favorite places to shop and what products I buy from those places. I hope it’s helpful!

I’ll be updating the Shop frequently with new finds and recent purchases. Check it out here, if you’d like.

Happy shopping! x
